“The Spirit of Compromise in an Age of Apostasy”    
 

He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. Mt 12:30

  As is usual with people on a decline, some who got on “the down grade” went further than they intended, showing that it is easier to get on than to get off, and that where there is no brake it is very difficult to stop. 


It is exceedingly difficult in these times to preserve one’s fidelity before God and one’s fraternity among men. Should not the former be preferred to the latter if both cannot be maintained? We think so. To pursue union at the expense of truth is treason to the Lord Jesus.


It is thought to be mere bigotry to protest against the mad spirit which is now loose among us. Pan-indifferentism is rising like the tide; who can hinder it? We are all to be as one, even though we agree in next to nothing. It is a breach of brotherly love to denounce error. Hail, holy charity! Black is white; and white is black. The false is true; the true is false; the true and the false are one. 


Complicity with error will take from the best of men the power to enter any successful protest against it. 


It is well to understand that we are to be “first pure, then peaceable.” Our peaceableness is never to be a compact with sin, or toleration of evil. Better die than sell your soul to the highest bidder.


There is a time to do as others wish, and a time to refuse. But we are so gentle and quiet, we do not use strong language about other people’s opinions; but let men go to hell out of charity to them.


Do you not know that a person who is silent when a wrong thing is said or done may become a participator in the sin?
